Laugavegurinn, or Laugavegur hiking trail (55 kilometres), is Iceland’s most popular hiking trail, connecting the nature reserves Landmannalaugar and Þórsmörk.
The trek is not difficult to complete and can be completed in a day or two if you wish but this would be doing to route a huge disservice. Why? Because this surely is one of the most photogenic, spectacular treks in the world, recent appearances in the films Prometheus and Rogue One have only enhanced the profile of Icelands landscape.
The trail offers a great variety of landscape: mountains in almost every colour of the rainbow, great glaciers, roaring hot springs, big rivers and lakes. Generally the hike lasts four days and the starting point is Landmannalaugar. Limited accommodation is offered in six huts along the track (reservations necessary) or on the campsites located at the huts.
